What is sebaceous hyperplasia?
Sebaceous hyperplasia is a benign condition in which the sebaceous glands (the glands that lubricate and waterproof our skin and hair) become enlarged around tiny hair follicles of the facial skin. This disorder usually produces yellowish or flesh-colored bumps on the face, and will generally affect newborns and middle-aged to elderly people.
This condition is usually inherited. Contrary to popular belief, is not caused by oily skin or infections.
The symptoms of sebaceous hyperplasia
There is only one symptom of sebaceous hyperplasia: 1-5mm papules (elevated skin with no visible fluid) that can develop on the forehead, nose, and cheeks. These papules may be cauliflower-shaped.
